On Wednesday, March 2, 2011, God welcomed another flower into his beautiful garden. Ferble Athlene Hatfield Grimmett, 79 of Hampden, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and joined her many loved ones waiting for her in heaven, from St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington.
Born on August 4, 1931, at Hampden, she was the daughter of the late Sherman and Eunice Wyatt Hatfield.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Wesley Grimmett; one son, Tommie Grimmett; two grandchildren: Kathy Lynette and Nancy Dawn Grimmett; three sisters: Hattie Hatfield, Margaret Hatfield, and Tilda Justice; and six brothers: Moss, Tracey, Burl, Joe, Layton, and Walter Hatfield.
Ferble was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a retired postmaster for the Hampden post office, and she was a member of the Hanover Missionary Baptist Church. She was an animal lover, her favorite was her cat “Momma Cat”, but she took care of them all. She loved spending time with her wonderful family, her church family, and her friends. She loved quilting and was an excellent cook. She was known as the best roll maker and she was a wonderful role model as well. She had a beautiful smile and a warm welcome for everyone. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to love and cherish her memory and to mourn her passing include her two sons: Jerry (Barbara) Grimmett of Hampden and Donnie (Sandy) Grimmett of Proctorville Ohio; her daughter, Pamela (Mark) Cline of Gilbert; her daughter-in-law, Darlene Grimmett; her grandchildren: Jonathan (Lydia) Grimmett, Christa (Steve) Kovach, Paul (Erica) Grimmett, Adam Grimmett (girlfriend, Heather Elliot), Craig (Cindy) Grimmett, Ashley (Brandon) Causey, Cyndi Cline, and David Elkins; her great-grandchildren: Katelyn Grimmett, Lisa Kovach, Preston Kovach, Steven Kovach, Christopher Davies, Hunter Davies, Aidan Grimmett, Elizabeth Grimmett, Jonathan Midkiff, Cade Grimmett, Ally Grimmett, Nathaniel Grimmett, Lindsay Eldridge, and Destiny Clark; two very good friends: Juanita Walker and Sheila Cline; and a host of other dear family and friends.
Friends may gather with the family at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Friday, March 4th from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 5th at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Arnold Harless and Rev. Jackie Lester officiating.
Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby Heights, Pecks Mill.
She will be carried to her final resting place by family and friends.
She is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
