Virgil Kennedy

Virgil Thomas Kennedy, 81, of Coal Mountain, WV, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at Raleigh General Hospital.

He was born January 2, 1934 at Guyan, WV, the son of the late Emory and Bertha Wallace Kennedy.

He married Carolyn Allen Kennedy on July 19, 1952. She preceded him in death on July 15, 1984. Virgil was also preceded in death by his brother Berthel Kennedy, his sisters: Belva Stokes and Corinne Davis; son-in-law: Danny Miller; his niece: Bobbie Staton; his great nephew: Kevin Davis.

Virgil was the owner/operator of Kennedy’s Grocery in Coal Mountain, WV for many years. He enjoyed keeping his lawns neatly mowed, watching westerns, listening to gospel music, and feeding the birds. He was greatly fascinated with cars and other vehicles.

Those left to love and cherish his memory are his children: Randy and Melanie Kennedy of Beckley, WV, Steve and Marsha Kennedy of Baileysville, WV, Debbie Miller of Charleston, WV; his brother: French and Joyce Kennedy of NC; his grandchildren: Kelee and Doug Trubiano, Amy and Mike Thurman, Emily and Jeremiah Nelson and Brandon Miller; his great grandchildren: Holly and Noah Trubiano, Ashton and Jacob Thurman and Jacqulin Miller. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.

Friends may gather with the family Saturday, November 28, 2015 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, WV

A celebration of Virgil’s life will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Randall Staton and Sister Jeanie Rhodes officiating.

Entombment will be at Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny, WV at a later date.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Arden and Kat Hatfield for all the kindness and love they have shown to Virgil over the years. A special thank you to Larry Hatfield and Hannah Jewell, Virgil’s little prayer buddy.

His wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.
