Freeland Gibson, 90 of Wharncliffe, departed this life on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at his residence.
Born on March 10th 1919, at Glen Alum, he was the son of the late Bee and Bertha Sipples Gibson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: his loving wife, Ruth Cantrell Gibson; four sons: Layton, Clark, Willie, and William Gibson; four brothers: Clarence, Don, Gene, and Lacy Gibson; six sisters, Norma Bussey, Ellen Blankenship, Icie Hatfield, Ethel Cantrell, Jennie Browning, and Mazie Browning.
Freeland was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a retired coal miner and of the Protestant faith.
Those left to love and cherish his memory are: his four sons: Alfred (Diana) Gibson, Robert (Thelma) Gibson, and Carl Dean (Shenna) Gibson, all of Wharncliffe, and John (Alma) Gibson of Belfry, Ohio; his daughter, Joyce (Roy) Browning of Wharncliffe, his sister, Nell Browning of Pigeon Creek; his 30 grandchildren; his numerous great grandchildren; and a host of other dear family and friends.
Friends called at the Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Holiness Church at Wharncliffe, on Wednesday, May 27th after 6 pm with a service at 7 pm.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 28th at the Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Denny May and the Rev. Danny Ward officiating.
Burial followed in the Gibson Cemetery at the Glen Alum section of Wharncliffe.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
