Billy James "Pete" Hatley Jr.

Billy James “Pete”  Hatley Jr., 74, of Bruno, WV, departed this life Friday, February 13, 2026, at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston, WV. Born September 29, 1951, at Iaeger, WV, he was the son of the late Irma Lucille (Browning) Grimmett and Billy James Hatley Sr. 

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his step-father: Denny Judd Grimmett.  

Billy loved his horses and anything related to horses. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to his grandchildren, Piper and Bronx, who were his pride and joys.  He enjoyed staying busy, working, and keeping others busy, but always showed his big heart to those he loved and cared for.  When he wasn’t spending time with grandkids or working, he loved to ride and talk about his prized Ford Mustang.  

Those left to love and cherish his memory are his daughter: Haley (Kirk Cline) Cantrell; son: Billy James Hatley III; his companion: Sandy Belcher; brother: Eddie (Wilma Dawn) Grimmett; 2 sisters: Debra (Bob) Flint and Gale (Burt) Browning; grandchildren: Piper and Bronx Cantrell; step-son: Zach Belcher; his former wife and mother to their daughter: Brenda Sue Cole; and 5 special nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.  

Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 6:00 till 9:00 p.m. in the chapel of Mounts Funeral Home with funeral services to commence at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Jonas Trent and Pastor Walter Grimmett officiating. 

Following services, his remains will be cremated per his wishes.
