Barry “T-Bug” C. Mounts, 70, of Baisden, West Virginia, went to be with his beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at his residence.
The legend of “T-Bug” began on September 1, 1955, in Welch, West Virginia, born to the late Nelis and Gladys Mounts (New).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Luther Mounts; sisters: Patricia Glandon and Jeri Adkins; father-in-law, Richard Smith; mother-in-law, Betty Smith; nephews: Christopher Mounts, Christopher Robin Mounts, and Steve Adkins, and niece Melinda Johnson.
T-Bug was a man who wore many titles in life, and he carried every one of them with pride and quiet strength. A devoted husband, loving father, and deeply proud grandfather, he built his life around the people he loved most. To his friends, he was steady and loyal, the kind of man you could count on without needing to ask twice. His presence brought comfort, and his stories brought laughter.
He often said he felt closest to God sitting in a tree stand, watching the sun rise through the trees while waiting for a big buck to appear. Beneath autumn leaves and morning skies, he found peace in prayer, patience, and reflection. Hunting was never only about the pursuit; it was tradition, fellowship, and the sharing of stories with those who walked beside him in the woods, especially his dear friend, Larry Cline. Even when he was not in the tree stand, he kept the same faithful routine, waking before sunrise to read his Bible.
The greatest measure of his life was the love he gave to his wife and children. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Rhonda Mounts (Smith), whose shared love created a family rooted deeply in faith and devotion. He was immensely proud of his sons: Barry (Amy) Mounts and Kerry (Leslee) Mounts; and his daughter, Lisa (Darin) Compton, who lovingly cared for him during his greatest time of need.
His grandchildren were among his greatest joys: Haley (Richard) Mullins, Gracie (Aaron) Robinette, Zack Mounts, Jaxson Mounts, and Maggie Mounts. He eagerly awaited the arrival of two great-grandchildren expected this summer: Kace Allen Mullins and Luke Ryker Robinette.
He is also survived by his brothers: Learmon (Sue) Mounts and Larry (Carol Atkins) Mounts. T-Bug had many dear friends, none closer than Larry and Organie Cline, Troy and Bobby New, Michael Harris, and Valerie Cline, who was like a daughter to him. He leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and a cherished church family who will carry his memory forward.
T-Bug was a faithful member of the Full Gospel Church of God in Baisden.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, March 4, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Baisden Full Gospel Church of God, where funeral services will commence at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jonas Trent, Rev. Ralphy Manual, and Rev. Learmon Mounts officiating. Burial will follow in the May Family Cemetery at Baisden. Pallbearers will be: Barry, Kerry, Zackery, and Jaxson Mounts; Darin Compton; Aaron Robinette; and Richard Mullins. Honorary pallbearers are men who meant the world to our beloved husband and father: Larry Cline, Troy New, Bobby New, Teddy New, T.R. New, Joe Dale New, Michael Harris, Glen Gravely, Colin Cline, Zack Manual and his brothers, Larry and Learmon Mounts.
Though his chair may now sit empty, the lessons he taught, the faith he lived, and the love he gave will continue to guide those who knew him for generations to come.
