Virgie Sowards73, of Hampden, WV went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2009 from Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born April 1, 1935 at Wharncliffe, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Dixie Cantrell Murphy.

Virgie was preceded in death by two daughters: Barbara and Birdie Sowards; three brothers: Burgess, Tennis, and Arlin Murphy; three sisters: Ethel Johnson, Laura Bradford, and Ruth Ward.

Those left to love and cherish the memory of Virgie are her son, Earl (Tina) Sowards of Isaban; one daughter: Rebecca Sowards of the home; two brothers: Joe (Ann) Murphy of Geneva, Ohio, and Virgil (Beulah) Murphy of Perry, Ohio; two sisters: Ona Runyon of Wharncliffe, and Emma Gene (Sammy) Blackburn of Baisden; two grandchildren: Ivan (Cassie) Sowards, and Dale Sowards; one great-grandson: Jason Sowards; special friends: Clinton, Jacob, and Patricia Coleman, and a host of other dear family and friends. Virgie was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, she was also of the Church of God faith.

Friends called at the Isaban Church of God, Wednesday, March 18th, 2009, from 6 to 10 pm. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 19th, 2009 at 2 pm, with the Rev. Clinton Coleman officiating. Burial followed in the Sowards Cemetery at Isaban. Friends and family served as pallbearers.
