“Grief is the price we pay for love.” –Queen Elizabeth II Tara Renae Poe-Ellis passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 due to post- surgical complications at the age of 43. Tara was born on October 31, 1973 in Man, WV to Verner Poe Jr. and the late Dorothy (Browning) Poe of Verner, WV. She was a graduate of Gilbert High School. During her life she held various jobs, but the most meaningful to her was being a loving Mommy to Noah Seth (17), Ian Phillip (14), Carson Alan (13) and Micah Preston (8). As a little girl, she always carried kittens, baby dolls and bottles, while she dreamed of being a mother someday. Tara was fiercely proud of her boys, and would tell everyone about them. If you were asked to describe Tara, the word compassionate would come to mind. She loved to cook for those she loved, and longed to take care of everyone. Her compassionate nature will be remembered by all her family and friends. One word you would never use to describe Tara is dull. For all the love she had, she was fiery, opinionated and headstrong—a lovely balance of the sweet and the salt. Fate had a way of knocking her to the ground. She came close to shattering with the death of one of her precious boys, Preston Cooper, and her much-loved mother, followed by the loss of her babies; but instead of breaking, she picked herself up with sheer determination and will. Instead of breaking, she arose from the ashes a strong, complicated woman made all the more beautiful by the scars now a part of her. Again, sweetness with a dash of salt. Her husband, Tony Ellis of Bruno, WV is left to cherish her memory. They fell in love, and helped to heal each other. This love for Tony was the foundation where she rebuilt her new life. The only thing she loved as much as Tony, her boys, and her family, was watching football and all those who knew her, knew to leave her alone when her beloved Green Bay Packers took the field. This fall the sounds and lights of football will be less vibrant without her joy for the sport. “Go Pack Go!” Besides her husband, Tony of Bruno, WV, she is survived by her loving children: Noah, Carson, Ian and Micah; her adoring father, Verner Poe, Jr of Spice Creek, WV; her devoted sister, Stephanie Poe-Thomas (Adam Thomas) of Fort Mill, SC; her loving brother, Seth Poe of Roanoke, VA; her nieces and nephews, Olivia and Mitchell Thomas, Derreck Oliveira, Haley Settle (Christopher), Brady and McKenna Poe; and her grandmother, Beulah Poe of Gilbert, WV along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Friends may gather with family on Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 6:00-9:00 pm at Verner Community Church in Verner, WV to celebrate Tara’s impact on their lives. Funeral services will commence at 11:00 am at the church on Sunday, July 23, 2017 with the Rev. Walter Grimmett officiating. Entombment will follow at Browning Cemetery behind Verner Community Church.
