Roger Reed, Sr., 67, of Amherstdale, formerly of Gilbert, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016, from CAMC Memorial Division in Charleston. Born May 1, 1948, at Baltimore, Maryland, he was a son of the late Abraham Lincoln "Link" Reed and Elizabeth Eleanor South-Weed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Wade Reed. Roger was a loving father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend. He was a retired coal miner. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. He also attended the Liberty Freewill Baptist Church at Amherstdale. Roger will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to love and cherish his memory are his three children: Roger (Juile) Reed, Jr., of Cowen, WV; Virgie Reed, and Amanda Reed both of Amherstdale; five loving grandchildren, whom he adored: Jason Taylor, Emily Taylor, Dalton Taylor, Dominick Reed, and Anna Reed; one sister, Brenda Reed; one special cousin, Billie Dykes; two special friends: Helen Taylor and Roy Lee Blankenship, Jr. Roger also leaves behind a host of many dear relatives and friends. At his request, there will be no funeral services, and his remains will be cremated. Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of the arrangements.
