Obed Johnson

Obed Johnson, 70, of Wharncliffe, departed this life Friday, August 28, 2015 from Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born December 21, 1944 at Pounding Mill, Wharncliffe, WV he was the son of the late Preston and Cordia Trent Johnson.

In addition to his parents Obed was also preceded in death by his son: Rodney Johnson; sisters: Maggie Osbourne and Millie Teems Wolford; his brother: Isom Johnson; half-sister: Dicie Wolford.

Obed was a logger, he loved being outdoors and enjoyed playing music with the Bluegrass Four. He was of the Protestant Faith.

Those left to love and cherish the memory of Obed, and to mourn his passing are his wife: Verna Mae Johnson of Wharncliffe; his daughters: Phoebe (Terry Joe) Cline, Louise (John) Cantrell, all of Wharncliffe, Annette (Chuckie) Morgan of Hanover; his sons: Ricky (Melinda) Johnson of Baisden, Obed (Cindy) Johnson Jr., of Browning Fork, and Jeremy Johnson of Wharncliffe; sisters: Janice Bradford of Baisden and Muriel Albury of Shady Wood; his brothers: Ralph Johnson of Baisden and John Preston Johnson, Jr., of Wharncliffe; 16 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, half-sisters, half-brothers and other dear relatives and friends.

Friends may gather with the family Monday, August 31, 2015 from 6 to 9 pm at the Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer Church, Hampden, WV. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer Church, Hampden, WV with the Rev Carl “Cab” Wolford officiating.

Burial will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery at Pounding Mill Hollow, Wharncliffe, WV.

Obed will be carried to his final resting place by pallbearers: Jeremy Johnson, Nathaniel Trent, Greg Daniels, Terry Joe Cline, Obed Johnson II, and Wesley Smith.

He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
