Millard Roach, 95, of Pineville, formerly of Hampden, departed this life on Monday, April 20, 2009, at his residence.
Born on March 25, 1914, at Oceana, he was the son of the late Ethel Roach of Ravenscliff.
In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by: his wife of 50 years, Naomi Pauline (Martin) Roach; one daughter, Patricia Lynn Sizemore; one son, Adam Millard Roach; and his grandparents, Charles and Louise Allen.
Millard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He was a retired coal miner, and of the Baptist faith. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in the 238th Military Police Company. While serving his country he received the following decorations and citations: American Theater Ribbon; Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon; Good Conduct Ribbon; and Victory Medal.
Those left to love and cherish his memory are: his son, Lewis (Naomi) Roach of Logan; his four daughters: Minnie Mae (Timothy) Smith of Justice, Peggy Sue Morgan and Mary Lou Roach, both of Pineville, and Joetta (David) Baisden of Delbarton; a special son-in-law, Jessie Sizemore; his eleven grandchildren; his seventeen great- grandchildren; and a host of other dear family and friends.
Friends called at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Wednesday, April 22nd from 6 to 9 pm, with special services at 7 pm.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 23rd at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Diamond Carter and the Rev. Lowell Smith officiating. Military grave rite services were performed by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter # 141 of Belfrey, Kentucky.
Burial followed in the Hickory Ridge Cemetery at Bud Mountain, Bud WV.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
