Johnny Harper, 86 of Coal Mountain, departed this life on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from his residence. Born on December 17, 1927, at Guyan, WV, he was the son of the late McKinley and Nancy Harper.
In addition to his parents Johnny was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie Harper; 1 son, Johnny Mack Harper; 5 sisters, Sadie Chambers, Emaline Hatfield, Thelma Morgan, Jeanie Mounts & Truby Harper; 3 brothers, Amos Harper, Willie Harper & Ben Harper. Johnny was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was a retired custodian for the Wyoming County Board of Education. Johnny was a member of the Community Church of Coal Mountain. He enjoyed spending time with his wonderful family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of Johnny include his loving wife Ella Lodeskia Harper of Coal Mountain, his 2 step-daughters: Tammy Myers of Fan Rock, WV and Cecilia Cantrell of Georgia; 3 brothers: Curtis (Patty) Harper of Coal Mountain, WV, Lonnie (Virgie) Harper of Brenton & Clarence (Ophelia) Harper of Simon; 2 Sisters: Betty Addison of Floyd, VA & Phoeba (Dale) Toler of Justice, WV; sister-in-law: Geneva Harper of Verner; 2 grandsons: Travis and Chandous Toler of Coal Mountain and a very special neighbor Paul Toler of Coal Mountain; and a host of other dear family and friends.
Friends may gather with the family at the Freewill Baptist Church at Coal Mountain on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 6-9pm with a special service at 7pm. Funeral Services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday April 16, 2014 at the church with the Rev. Bill Cantrell & Rev. Roger Browning officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hatfield Cemetery at Coal Mountain. Johnny will be carried to his final resting place by family and friends.
He is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
