James Stafford, Jr., 81 of Verner, departed this life Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from CAMC Memorial Hospital. Born on December 31, 1934 at Farley Hill, he was the son of the late Zenith (Hatcher) and James Stafford, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son: Danny Lee Stafford; brothers: Richard and Roger Stafford; his sister: Mary Lou Jackson; Great-grandchild: Emilee Michelle Walker. James loved to ride his 4-wheeler, and he enjoyed fishing, and spending time playing with his grandchildren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a retired coal miner. Those left to love and cherish the memory of James, and to mourn his passing are his wife: Margaret Stafford of Verner; his 4 sons: Joseph (Tina) Stafford of Verner, Michael (Trish) Stafford of Wyco, Jimmy and Lenny Stafford; 3 daughters: Trina (Chuck) Heatherman of Cyclone, Sharon Dorton and companion Mark Lovejoy of Verner, Evelyn Hernandez of South Carolina; his brother: Bobby Lee Stafford of Wyoming County; sisters: Edna Stafford and Opal Bailey, both of Raleigh County; his grandchildren: Sheena and Maria Dorton, Ira and Nikki Dotson, Coty Walker, Lee and Stevie Goodman, Anthony, Tyler, Chase, Jayla and David Stafford, and Amanda Wreen. He also leaves behind a host of great grandchildren and other dear relatives and friends. Friends may gather with the family Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 10 am to 11 am at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel where funeral services will commence at 11:00 am with the Rev. Randy Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny. James will be carried to his final resting place by Steven Goodman, Chuck Heatherman, Troy Goodman, Toby Grimmett, Shawn Toler and Tyler Stafford. His wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.
