Harless Matney

Harless Matney, 81 of Trace Fork of Panther, passed away December 11th, 2010 at Princeton Community Hospital following a long illness.

Born on March 8, 1929, at Hurley Virginia, he was the son of the late Wiley and Westine Branham Matney.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: one son, Randy Matney; three brothers: Charlie, Arnold, and Chaney Matney; two half-brothers: Branson and Dewey Matney; and 2 half-sisters: Margaret and Deanie.

Harless was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was a disabled coal miner and of the Baptist faith. In his healthier days he loved to hunt ginseng and ride his 4-wheeler.

Those left to love and cherish his memory and to carry on his legacy include his loving wife of 56 years, Freda Justice Matney of Panther; his daughter, Joyce Roberts of Panther; his three sons: Ricky, Ray, and Steve (Sheila) Matney all of Panther; his step-son, Norman (Wilma) Justice of Panther; his three brothers: Adam (Alice) and Stewart (Chloe) Matney both of Hurley VA and Daniel (Opal) Matney of Panther; his two sisters: Eve (Frankie) Roberts of Patrick Springs VA and Ada (John) Blankenship of Hurley VA; a special grandson, whom they helped raise, Kelly Raye Matney of Panther; his thirteen grandchildren; his six great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and close family friends who will forever miss him.

Friends may gather with the family at the Matney residence on Trace Fork of Panther on Monday and Tuesday, December 13th and 14th after 6pm. There will be a special service at 7 pm nightly.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 15th at the residence with Elders: Eddie Cline, Roger Walker, Junior Shrader, and Luke Lester officiating.

Burial will follow in the Justice Family Cemetery at Trace Fork of Panther.

He will be carried to his final resting place by family and friends.

He is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
