Edgel Blankenship, 72, of Hanover, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, from his residence.

Born at Panther on April 2, 1936, he was the beloved son of the late Clell and Sylvia (Roberts) Blankenship.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie (Lester) Blankenship and two brothers: Herman and Hershel Blankenship.

Edgel was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a school bus driver for Wyoming County Board of Education, and a member of the Hanover Missionary Baptist Church at Hanover. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to love and cherish the memory of Edgel are: his son, Michael (Robin Owens and Daniel Owens) Blankenship of Hanover; his grandson, Tyler Blankenship of Hanover; his brothers and sisters: Cecil (Anita) Blankenship of Baileysville, Thurman (Barbara) Blankenship and Estil (Margaret) Blankenship both of Bassett VA, Marie Dotson and Hazel (Fred) Cline both of Austinville VA, Lou Emma (Doug) Peck of Piney VA, and Thelma Fergerson of Martinsville VA; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Friends called at the Hanover Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, January 10th from 6 pm to 10 pm and from 12 to 1 pm prior to services on Sunday.

A celebration of his life was held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 11th at the Hanover Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Arnold Harless and the Rev. Jackie Lester officiating.

Burial followed in the Blankenship Family Cemetery at Hanover.

He was carried to his final resting place by: Doug Cline, Darrick Stacy, Bernie Ray Harper, Jody Shannon, Tracey Cline, Jerome Owens. and Ivan Lester.

Honorary pallbearers were: Michael Perry, Doug Lester, Ozie Hatfield, Roger Wimmer, Ronald Conners, Jim Hatfield, Mike Justice, and Dewey Lusk.
