Dessie Steele

Dessie Maynard Steele, 91 went home to be with the Lord and her loved ones, on January 17, 2017. Born on April 30, 1925 at Guyan, she was the daughter of the late Bertie and Nora Maynard. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband: Johnny Steele; her sons: Joelen Steele and Franklin Wayman; her daughter: Gerlene Steele; brother: Lee Maynard; 4 sisters: Gracie Harper, Ethel Christian, Velvie Kenneda and Mary Howard. Dessie loved to work in her garden. She was a member of the Big Cub Missionary Baptist Church at Coal Mountain. Those left to love and cherish the memory of Dessie and to mourn her passing are her daughter: Goldie Thomas; her grandsons: Frankie (Denisa) Thomas, and Frankie Wayman; one great grandson: Tanner Thomas; 2 granddaughters: Melissa Thomas and Dawn Wayman; her great granddaughter: Kylie Wayman; her step grandson: Deric Gullet; 2 step-great grandsons: Braxton and Levi Gullet; a daughter-in-law: Eva Mae Wayman; one half-brother: Burn (Linda) Maynard; one sister: Maggie Kenneda. She also leaves behind a host of other family and friends. Friends may gather with the family Thursday, January 19, 2017, from 6 to 9 pm, at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, WV. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 20, 2017 at 12:00 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Firg Proffitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Big Cub Missionary Baptist Community Cemetery at Coal Mountain, WV. Pallbearers will be Robert Morgan, Lindell Walls, Clacey Lambert, Jerry Browning, Ron Brown and Jeremy Warrix. Her wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved her.
